Torremolinos: where to stay and how to get there from Ireland
Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol: year-round direct flights to Málaga from five Irish airports, a 10-minute train from the airport, and where to stay.
Updated Saturday 17 October 2026
Why go
Torremolinos was the first Costa del Sol resort to take off, and it is still one of the busiest. It has about 7 km of beach, a long promenade lined with beach bars, and plenty of hotels at every level.
The big selling point is access. The airport is about 10 minutes away by train, so you can be on the beach within an hour of landing. With year-round flights from five Irish airports, it is also one of the easiest winter sun options.
Getting there from Ireland
Fly to Málaga (AGP). Direct flights run all year from:
- Dublin: Aer Lingus and Ryanair, about 2 hours 50 minutes
- Cork: Aer Lingus and Ryanair, about 2 hours 40 minutes
- Shannon: Ryanair, about 2 hours 45 minutes
- Knock: Ryanair, about 2 hours 55 minutes
- Belfast International: Jet2.com, Ryanair and easyJet, about 3 hours
The Cercanías commuter train runs from the airport to Torremolinos about every 20 minutes. There are five stops in the town, so pick the one closest to your hotel. The same line continues to Benalmádena and Fuengirola, and the other way into central Málaga.
When to go
Air temperatures are 2009 to 2025 averages for Torremolinos, from Wikipedia’s AEMET-based climate table. Sea temperatures come from seatemperature.org.
- Spring (April and May): highs of 21°C to 24°C. The sea is fresh, at 17°C to 18°C.
- Summer (June to August): highs of 28°C to 31°C. The sea peaks at about 23°C in August, a little cooler than the Balearics.
- Autumn (September and October): highs of 28°C falling to 25°C, with the sea at 20°C to 22°C. Good for October midterm.
- Winter (December to February): highs of about 18°C, which is very mild for Europe. The sea sits near 16°C, so most people stick to the pool.
Where to stay
- La Carihuela: the old fishing quarter at the western end, quieter, with seafood restaurants and sardine espetos grilled on the beach.
- El Bajondillo: the beach right below the town centre, busy, with the Calle San Miguel shops a lift ride up the cliff.
- Playamar: a popular family beach with play areas and calm water, a short walk east of the centre.
- Benalmádena: next door to the west, with a large marina, the Selwo Marina animal park and a cable car up Mount Calamorro.
Good for
- Winter sun breaks at Christmas or February midterm
- Families who don’t want a long transfer with tired kids
- Couples who want good food and an easy train into Málaga
- Day trips along the coast by train
- LGBT+ travellers: the town has a long-running gay scene and holds Pride in May
Kids will like Aqualand, which opens from May to October, and the Crocodile Park next door, which opens all year.
Late deal tip
You don’t need a package transfer here. The train from the airport is quick and frequent, so a flight plus hotel deal can work just as well as a package. Before you book, check which train stop is nearest your hotel. Some hotels sit up the hill from the beach, which matters if you have a buggy or small children.
