Costa Teguise, Lanzarote
Costa Teguise guide for Irish travellers: direct flights to Lanzarote, weather by month, which beach to stay near and a late deal tip.
Updated Saturday 17 October 2026
Why go
Costa Teguise was built for tourism from the start. The streets were planned and serviced before the hotels went up, beginning in 1970. The result is a planned resort built around its beaches, rather than one long seafront strip.
It has four natural beaches, a golf course and a reputation for windsurfing. Lanzarote artist César Manrique worked on its first five-star hotel, the Gran Meliá Salinas. It suits people who want sun and sea without a big strip.
Getting there from Ireland
Costa Teguise uses Lanzarote Airport (ACE). Based on current airport route tables:
- Dublin: Aer Lingus and Ryanair, plus seasonal TUI charters
- Cork: Aer Lingus
- Shannon: Ryanair
- Knock: Ryanair
- Belfast International: Jet2, Ryanair, plus easyJet and TUI seasonally
The flight from Dublin takes about four hours. Belfast International has the widest choice of airlines to Lanzarote, so it is worth a look from the border counties. In the west, Shannon and Knock both list Lanzarote as a year-round Ryanair route.
When to go
Lanzarote has warm, settled weather all year. Average highs at the island’s airport are:
- Winter (December to February): about 21°C to 22°C. Good winter sun, with cooler evenings.
- Spring (March to May): about 23°C to 25°C.
- Summer (June to September): about 27°C to 30°C, with August the warmest month.
- Autumn (October and November): about 24°C to 27°C.
Playa de las Cucharas draws windsurfers for a reason. Pack for breezy beach days.
Sunshine is reliable. Lanzarote Airport records over 200 hours of sun in every month, rising to more than 300 hours in July. Rain is rare, though winter evenings can feel cool.
Where to stay
- Playa de las Cucharas: the biggest beach and the centre of the resort, popular with windsurfers.
- Playa de los Charcos: almost joined to Las Cucharas, with white sand.
- Playa del Jablillo: the smallest and quietest beach. Breakwaters make it almost a natural pool at low tide, which suits young children.
- Playa Bastián: further south, a mix of white sand and small volcanic stones.
If you have small children, a hotel within walking distance of Playa del Jablillo makes beach days much easier.
Good for
- Families: sheltered water at Playa del Jablillo.
- Couples: a planned resort with 4 and 5 star hotels.
- Watersports: Playa de las Cucharas hosts a freestyle event on the PWA windsurfing world tour.
- Design fans: the Gran Meliá Salinas was designed by architect Fernando Higueras, working with César Manrique.
- Golf: Costa Teguise Golf dates from the late 1970s and was the island’s only course for about 30 years.
Late deal tip
Check whether your hotel offers more than one board basis. Price room only against all inclusive for the same dates, then add what you would spend eating out and on taxis. In a quieter resort, all inclusive can be the better value.
